Pliskova Calls Time on 2026 Season After US Open Exit

Karolina Pliskova has announced she will not compete in any further matches during the 2026 season, bringing an early end to her campaign following a disappointing second-round loss at the US Open.

The former world No. 1 from Czech Republic made the decision to prioritise recovery over competition, citing persistent injury issues that have plagued her recent months on tour. Rather than push through the remainder of the season, the veteran player has opted to step back and allow her body adequate time to heal.

Prioritising Recovery Over Results

“After everything my body has been through over the last months, I have a few small things that need some time to heal properly,” Pliskova explained. “Nothing serious, but right now it makes sense to give my body the time it needs instead of pushing through it.”

Her early exit from Flushing Meadows marked a significant turning point in her campaign. The US Open defeat prompted the reassessment of her schedule, leading to the decision to withdraw from the upcoming Asian swing of tournaments.

Return Targeted for 2027

Pliskova intends to use the remainder of 2026 and the off-season to address her physical concerns comprehensively. She is targeting a return to competitive action when the 2027 WTA season begins, giving herself an extended period away from tour demands.

The decision underscores the ongoing challenges elite tennis players face in managing accumulated fatigue and injury across gruelling schedules. By stepping away now, Pliskova aims to avoid compounding her current issues and positioning herself for a fresh start in the new year.
