Sussex Cricket has made a landmark decision in its governance structure, appointing Beth Barrett-Wild as the county’s first female chief executive, a position she will assume effective 1 January 2027. The appointment marks a significant milestone for the club as it strengthens its leadership team with fresh perspectives and experience.
Barrett-Wild brings substantial credentials to the role, having spent 13 years working with the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board), where she has gained extensive knowledge of cricket’s administrative landscape at the national level. Her appointment reflects Sussex Cricket’s commitment to evolving its operational leadership.
Board Expansion and New Directors
Alongside the chief executive appointment, Sussex Cricket has proposed a slate of five new non-executive directors to join the board, including former England bowler Holly Colvin. The inclusion of Colvin, who represented England in international cricket, adds playing experience and insider perspective to the club’s governance structure.
Ed Warner, Chair of Sussex Cricket, expressed his enthusiasm for the appointments. “Her achievements in the game have propelled women’s cricket to an entirely new level,” Warner stated, highlighting the significance of bringing fresh leadership into the organisation.
The expansion of the board with additional non-executive directors demonstrates Sussex Cricket’s intention to broaden its governance base and draw on diverse expertise as the county navigates the modern landscape of professional cricket administration.
