Glenn Irwin Joins GRYD Racing for BMW-Backed 2027 British Superbike Campaign

Glenn Irwin has secured a move to Michael Laverty’s GRYD Racing squad for the 2027 British Superbike Championship season, marking a significant fresh start for the Northern Irish rider following a disappointing 2026 campaign.

The switch pairs Irwin with an Alpha Racing-prepared BMW M 1000 RR, giving him access to competitive machinery as he aims to return to the front of the British Superbike grid. Team co-owners Michael Laverty and David Eltherington have assembled a strong lineup, with Storm Stacey confirmed as Irwin’s teammate for the upcoming season.

A Fresh Start on the BMW

The BMW-backed operation represents a new chapter for Irwin, who is determined to rebuild after a frustrating 2026. “We’ve done it before and we can do it again,” Irwin stated, expressing confidence in his ability to restore his form with the new team.

Laverty’s involvement in the project adds considerable experience to the operation. The former British Superbike competitor and current team co-owner has built GRYD Racing into a competitive force, and the addition of Irwin strengthens their roster alongside Stacey and fellow competitor Leon Haslam.

Ambitions Restored

The partnership comes as Irwin seeks to reclaim his position among British Superbike’s elite after what proved to be a challenging campaign in 2026. With the resources of a BMW-backed team and an experienced management structure in place, Irwin has positioned himself to make an immediate impact when the 2027 season commences. The combination of the Alpha Racing-prepared BMW machinery and Stacey as a competitive teammate provides the infrastructure necessary for Irwin to mount a credible championship challenge.
