The incident has already been resolved at a local level, with Hampshire Police concluding their investigation into the matter. “Following an incident involving a Portsmouth FC supporter and a Cardiff player at Fratton Park on 5 September 2026, we have now concluded our investigation,” a Hampshire Police statement confirmed.
Police Investigation Concluded
Hampshire Police determined that no criminal charges were warranted, instead handling the matter through an out-of-court disposal. The resolution included an apology from the Welsh defender, effectively closing the police investigation without further action being taken.
However, the FA’s regulatory process continues independently of the police findings. The governing body has formally charged Bielik with misconduct in connection with the supporter confrontation, moving the matter into football’s disciplinary system rather than the criminal justice framework.
Deadline Set for Response
The Cardiff City defender now faces an FA deadline of 25 September to submit his response to the charge. This timeline gives Bielik and his club’s legal representatives roughly three weeks to prepare their case and determine their approach to the misconduct proceedings.
The incident occurred during a difficult afternoon for Brian Barry-Murphy’s side, who suffered the 2-0 defeat under John Mousinho’s Portsmouth management.
