Pakistan’s men’s Test cricket team will receive a royal audience with King Charles during their England tour this summer, following a period of uncertainty that nearly derailed the series entirely.
The meeting will take place in the gardens of Clarence House between the second and third Test matches. According to Buckingham Palace, “His Majesty the King, as Head of the Commonwealth, will receive the Pakistan Men’s Test Cricket Team for an audience in the gardens of Clarence House, in the break between the second and third Test matches hosted in England over the summer.”
Controversy Nearly Halted Tour
The royal engagement comes after significant tension threatened the tour’s continuation. The Pakistan Cricket Board had considered cancelling the series following a controversial interview involving Suleiman Khan and Kasim Khan, the sons of Imran Khan, the former Pakistan captain and prime minister.
The dispute escalated to government level, with PCB chairman and interior minister Mohsin Naqvi becoming directly involved in negotiations. The combination of diplomatic pressure and government advice ultimately shaped the resolution, allowing the tour to proceed despite the underlying tensions.
Tour Continues Amid Resolution
Pakistan’s men’s Test cricket team will now complete their England fixtures with the royal audience serving as a high-profile engagement during the break in play. Pakistan coach Sarfaraz Ahmed will lead the squad through the remainder of the series.
The meeting with King Charles underscores the Commonwealth connection between the United Kingdom and Pakistan, with the monarch’s role as Head of the Commonwealth making the audience particularly significant for the touring side.
