Munster has confirmed that Ireland fly-half Jack Crowley will be ruled out until the new year due to a blood vessel issue in his leg, dealing a significant blow to both the province and the international side during a critical period of the season.
Crowley’s absence means he will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 United Rugby Championship season and the second block of the Six Nations, robbing Munster of a key playmaker at a crucial juncture. The injury comes at a particularly difficult time as the Irish province juggles multiple personnel absences across the backline.
Munster’s Injury Crisis
The Red Army is already managing injuries to several key personnel. Edwin Edogbo, an Ireland international, is sidelined with a shoulder injury, while fellow international Tom Farrell is also dealing with a shoulder complaint. Additionally, Calvin Nash, another Ireland international, is working his way back from a hamstring injury, compounding Munster’s depth issues.
McMillan Prioritises Recovery
Munster head coach Clayton McMillan emphasised the importance of ensuring Crowley makes a full recovery. “Jack Crowley is a very important player for Munster and Ireland with a big future in the game and ensuring he gets back to 100% is the priority,” McMillan stated.
With Crowley unavailable, Munster will likely turn to alternative options at fly-half. Will Harrison and JJ Hanrahan are among the experienced options available, while academy players Tom Wood and Charlie O’Shea may feature in squad plans as the province navigates the extended injury period.
