Leigh Halfpenny has committed his coaching future to Cardiff Rugby, joining the club as a full-time skills coach. The move reunites the former Wales and British & Irish Lions full-back with the United Rugby Championship outfit following recent experience at international level.
Experience from Wales Role
Halfpenny’s appointment comes fresh off his work as Wales’ kicking coach during the summer, a role that has directly informed his decision to return to club rugby. The veteran playmaker will now channel that experience into developing Cardiff’s personnel, working across multiple areas of the squad.
Coaching Remit
In his new position, Halfpenny will focus on coaching the club’s kickers and scrum-halves, while also dedicating significant attention to developing academy talent. His dual responsibility spanning senior and emerging players reflects Cardiff’s commitment to building strength across all levels of their organization.
Speaking about his appointment under head coach Corniel van Zyl, Halfpenny expressed enthusiasm for the role: “There is a great group of players, who I enjoyed working with last season, and I believe I can add value to the group, while also helping the young players coming through. It was a huge honour to work with Wales again this summer, I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity and I’m looking forward to bringing that experience back to the club.”
The signing represents continuity for Cardiff, with Halfpenny having established existing relationships within the squad during the previous campaign. His familiarity with the club’s playing personnel and coaching structure positions him to make an immediate impact across both the elite squad and the pathway for upcoming talents.
