Northern Ireland’s boxing contingent secured two silver medals at the Commonwealth Games, with Michaela Walsh and Kaci Rock both finishing as runners-up in their respective finals.
Walsh, competing in her event, was defeated by unanimous decision against opponent Jaismine, settling for silver. The result marks Walsh’s third silver medal at the Commonwealth Games, adding to her previous finishes at the competition.
Rock also went down to defeat in his final, losing by unanimous decision to Sacha Hickey. However, the silver medal represents a significant milestone for the Northern Ireland boxer, marking his first Games silver medal.
Gold Still Within Reach
Despite the two runners-up finishes, Northern Ireland’s boxing team still has opportunities to claim gold at the Games. Jon McConnell remains in contention, with the boxer set to compete in the men’s light-middleweight final, giving the Northern Ireland delegation a chance to secure top honours on the podium.
