Scottish darts player Cameron Menzies was forced to abandon his World Matchplay second-round encounter in Blackpool after suffering a serious health episode during play against Ross Smith.
Match Interrupted by Medical Emergency
Menzies fell ill during the fixture, experiencing symptoms that left him unable to continue competing. According to the PDC, “Cameron experienced high blood pressure, which caused him to feel dizzy and subsequently faint.” The Scottish player was escorted off the stage after the incident and could not return to complete the match.
Forfeit Ends Menzies’ Tournament Run
Unable to resume play, Menzies was forced to forfeit the contest, resulting in a 1-2 defeat to Smith. The withdrawal marked the end of his World Matchplay campaign at the second-round stage.
Medical staff attended to Menzies following the incident. The PDC confirmed that he was cleared medically, though the severity of his symptoms during the match meant returning to competition was not possible. His departure from the stage occurred after he experienced dizziness and subsequently lost consciousness during the match.
