Sussex County Cricket Club have confirmed the appointment of Matt Walker as their new head coach from 1 November 2027, following Paul Farbrace’s transition into the role of Director of Cricket.
Walker, 52, brings significant experience from his time leading Kent, where he achieved promotion and secured limited-overs titles. The appointment represents a change in structure at Sussex, with Farbrace moving away from day-to-day coaching responsibilities to focus on wider strategic oversight of the club’s cricket operations.
Beyond his Kent tenure, Walker has maintained an active coaching presence across English cricket. He currently serves as a batting coach at Warwickshire and holds the position of assistant coach with MI London in The Hundred, demonstrating his ongoing involvement at multiple levels of the domestic and franchise game.
The managerial transition marks a significant moment for Sussex as they prepare for the 2027 season, with Walker’s proven track record in county cricket leadership positioning him to guide the club’s competitive ambitions.
