Coco Gauff has thrown her support behind Elena Rybakina ahead of their opening matches at the China Open, expressing confidence that the Kazakhstani champion will claim many more Grand Slam titles in the years to come.
High Praise for Rising Star
With both players entering the tournament as top seeds, Gauff took time to reflect on Rybakina’s recent Grand Slam success and the trajectory of her career. “I think Elena is for sure someone who’s going to continue to win for a while just because of the weapons she’s had. I think it’s no surprise… she’s going to win many more,” Gauff stated, highlighting the technical arsenal that has propelled Rybakina to major championship glory.
Looking to Avoid Repeat Matchups
Gauff’s prediction comes as both competitors prepare for competition at the WTA Tour event in China. The American star’s remarks underscore her respect for Rybakina’s game, though Gauff will be hoping to avoid another encounter with her rival in the tournament’s latter stages. The pair’s history includes a semifinal meeting, a result Gauff will likely seek to prevent from repeating as the event unfolds.
Rybakina’s recent success on tennis’s biggest stages has established her as one of the sport’s most formidable competitors, and Gauff’s endorsement reflects the broader consensus among the sport’s elite players regarding the Kazakhstani’s capabilities and potential for sustained dominance at the Grand Slam level.
