The punishment stems from their August victory over Glamorgan and comprises three components: the loss of all 19 points earned from that win, an additional 8-point penalty, and a £5,000 fine. The Pitch Preparation Issue
Match referee Ian Ramage and ECB pitch and grounds advisor Andy Mackay identified the regulatory breach following the Glamorgan fixture. The surface at Leicestershire’s ground failed to meet Championship standards, triggering the disciplinary action from England’s cricket authority.
Head coach Alfonso Thomas explained the circumstances surrounding the pitch preparation, stating that the surface had been prepared in the same way as the pitch used against Yorkshire, “although it was a bit drier than what we wanted.”
