Gemma Stevens has finally reached the summit of British eventing, claiming her maiden victory at the Burghley Horse Trials—one of the sport’s most prestigious competitions. Riding Chilli Knight, the British competitor delivered a commanding performance to secure the biggest win of her career.
Stevens’ triumph came after an extraordinary journey at five-star level. The rider has made 31 previous attempts at this elite tier before breaking through at Burghley, where she posted an immaculate show-jumping round and finished on a dressage score of 29.6.

“It’s only taken me 25 years and finally I’ve managed to win a big B [Burghley or Badminton]. I couldn’t be more proud,” Stevens reflected on her achievement, capturing the emotion of finally reaching the podium at one of eventing’s most demanding stages.
